nothing but Schug
Toyota speedway at Irwindale, April 23, 2011 – If there's going to be a challenge mounted against Chad Schug this year to prevent a repeat championship, it's going to have to start soon. So far in the three days of racing at Irwindale, Schug has won all of them without serious challenge. And he's been fastest in every practice and qualifying session except the second race day when the 41 of Mark Borchetta seemed to have Schug covered before breaking a motor in the race. In this last event in the borrowed 88 car from Tony Green Motorsports, Schug once again topped every day session on the track.
Young racer, Mitch Dejong showed consistent speed all day at this event as he trailed Schug by just a few hundredths in each session, as the two left the rest of the field pretty far off their pace. But in the race, it was all Schug again, who was never challenged, although the fastest lap in the race was set by second-place finisher Eric Gunderson in the 97 car. Third place was the 98 of Brent Scheidemantle, who set the pace for the first five laps after grabbing the lead from the outside on turn one from a very nervous first-time pole sitter (due to the spin of the inversion wheel) Aaron Wells in the 10 car.
The Legends take a couple of weeks off from Irwindale to regroup and try to figure out an answer to the Schug dominance before May 14th. The next race for the Legends is at the Bullring in Las Vegas April 30 for the national qualifying race. A divisional win there seals a spot in the A Main at this year's Nationals which will be held at the Bullring in the fall.
