nothing but Schug
Toyota speedway at Irwindale, April 09, 2011 –After a long winter of no racing at Toyota Speedway of Irwindale, the Legends took to the newly-paved 1/3 mile oval looking for new speed.
The smoother turns three and four showed a solid 10th of a second improvement across the board as it was common to see fast times in the low 16:60's and mid 16:50's during the day's practice and qualifying.
And picking up right where he left off, 2010 track champion, Chad Schug led the way in all three of the day's sessions in a borrowed #88 car from Tony Green Motorsports. The next four-to-six positions saw a shuffle between several cars from Blake Dunkleberger's #4, the #97 of Eric Gunderson, the #41 of Mark Borchetta, and the #98 of Brent Scheidemantle.
But in the race it was all Schug, as he quickly moved onto point and was never challenged for the lead. Second place was brought home by Eric Gunderson, with Brent Scheidemantle landing the final podium spot. Blake Dunkleberger motored to his best oval finish to date in fourth.
The Legends will be back next Saturday for more action at Toyota Speedway of Irwindale.
