NEW BANDO TRACK "RECORDS" SET AT IRWINDALE

Friday, April 22, 2011 – Toyota Speedway of Irwindale – As if one track record wasn't enough for RJ Stearns on Friday night (18.225 secs), he wheeled his #48 around the 1/3-mile oval even faster on Saturday night with a time of 18.189 to set his second track record in as many nights!

But as 16 cars took the green flag on Friday, by the end of lap one the #71 of Christian McGhee took the lead from the outside of the #48 and never looked back. The #24 of Ricky Schlick and the #4 of Brandon Weaver respectively tried to mount late charges on McGhee, but he kept the #71 out front to win his second straight race while Stearns faded back to 9th.

Saturday night saw an even bigger field of 20 cars. Once again it took less than a lap for McGhee to motor his #71 past Stearns and into the lead, this time from the third starting position. And once again, it was Weaver and Schlick right in toe, this time with Weaver in the second spot. And he kept his #4 glued to McGhee's bumper through 16 laps and finally made the move into the lead as they navigated lapped traffic... only to have the caution come out for a spin in turn one. The caution reset the field with McGhee back on point, and this time he was able to hold on until the checkers waved to make it three in a row. Weaver held onto second and Schlick brought the #24 home in third. Stearns' #48 was involved in a lap-three incident which sent him to the back and he wound up 13th.

The Bandoleros will be back at Irwindale next week for Friday and Saturday night races.
